Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) involves the insertion of acupuncture-like needles into muscles in order to release shortened or tightened muscles. Sometimes electrical stimulation is used as well. Intramuscular Stimulation is often used in conjunction with physiotherapy for treatment of chronic pain. It's developed by Dr. Chan Gunn of Vancouver, Canada based on traditional acupuncture techniques.
